The British Journal of Sports Medicine published an article in October by researchers in Japan that looked at the performance benefits of deep soft tissue massage after intense interval cycling. While there wasn’t a measurable performance gain initially, there was a measurable difference in the perceived recovery – the group that received a sports massage had less pain and less stiffness and was also able to hold a higher power output for the second cycling bout.

The NY Times also has an article on the benefits of sports massage for athletes in their health and wellness section.
