The New York Times Health section continues to be busy with more articles about the benefits of diet. Their latest article comments on an article published in the Journal of American Medical Association (JAMA) about the benefits of a high-fiber and low glycemic-index diet in diabetes.
The short comment is that this reaffirms the influence of dietary changes on chronic medical conditions such as diabetes.

There’s been some earlier studies that also demonstrated similar benefits and its something we’ve been telling our diabetic patients for some time now. My favorite example is saying to diabetic patients - Think of your diet like building a fire – you need a good mix of kindling, sticks and logs. If you try to burn just newspaper (straight sugar) the fire burns bright (and short). If you eat a diet that is balanced in regards to fiber and glycemic index.
