Dr. John M. Martinez, M.D., the sports medicine director of the San Diego sports medicine clinic, Coastal Sports and Wellness, has been named to the USA Triathlon medical team providing sports medicine coverage for the elite USA triathletes competing on the ITU World Cup circuit.

Dr Martinez and three other sports medicine physicians will be traveling with the USA elite triathlon teams to the ITU World Cup events. Dr Martinez will be providing coverage at the ITU World Championship Series races in Madrid, Spain and Kitzbuhel, Austria.

Dr Martinez has been part of the USA Triathlon medical team since 2004 and has helped coordinate and provide medical coverage for the Team USA age group triathlon teams participating at the 2004 ITU Triathlon Short Course World Championships in Portugal and the 2005 ITU Triathlon Short Course World Championships in Honolulu, Hawaii. In 2005, Dr Martinez was the lead team physician for the US age group team competing in the ITU Triathlon Long Course World Championships in Denmark, and in 2006 was the head U.S. physician for the ITU Triathlon Long Course World Championships in Canberra, Australia.
